Available Upgrades

Updates to the FEDS software are provided for download via your FEDS account and contain a number of important enhancements, data updates, and corrections. Some changes may have significant impacts on your analyses. Therefore, it is highly recommended to download and install the latest update as soon as possible. Updates are cumulative and contain all previous enhancements so it is only necessary to install the latest version.

Key changes in the FEDS 8 updates are listed below.

Updates

FEDS 8.2

FEDS 8.2 includes several updates and enhancements, plus fixes to issues identified in earlier versions.

  • A new 'Rebase Optimized Case' feature allows users to create a new case from the results of an optimized case (including all selected retrofit measures).
  • A new Fuel Type Availability option allows more nuance to fuel switching. Selecting the new ‘Existing’ option will permit FEDS to consider a replacement technology using that fuel type ONLY for equipment currently using that fuel (i.e., FEDS won't recommend switching to that fuel outside of equipment that currently use it).
  • The automated pairing of heat and cool technologies has been expanded and a new 'Do not pair this tech' option has been added to increase flexibility.
  • Inference improvements:
    • The Run Year now defaults to the current year but may be changed by the user.
    • The inferred LED lighting fixture configuration has been updated to take the use area type into account.
  • The latest DOE discount rate and energy escalation rate projections as reported by the Energy Price Indices and Discount Factors for Life-Cycle Cost Analysis (Annual Supplement to NIST Handbook 135). This includes expanded support for fuel price projections across the nine Census Divisions, in addition to the prior four Census Regions.
  • Third-party software component updates for enhanced performance and security.

Improvements to context-sensitive help, input validation, and minor fixes to reports.

FEDS 8.1.2

FEDS 8.1.2 updates include the following:

  • The latest DOE discount rate and energy escalation rate projections as reported by the Energy Price Indices and Discount Factors for Life-Cycle Cost Analysis – 2022 (Annual Supplement to NIST Handbook 135)
  • Improvements to the EPW import capability including allowing the user to edit the default weather station name
  • Minor GUI enhancements including improved input help and validation
  • Third-party software component updates for enhanced performance and security
  • Other minor updates and enhancements.

FEDS 8.1.1

Key changes in FEDS 8.1.1 include the following:

  • Corrections to issues identified in FEDS 8.1:
    • Initialization error leading to zero heat/cool/ventilation energy use in new building models created in v8.1
    • Error impacting the display of the last page of PDF text reports
    • Improper handling of unserved portion of building set when ‘floor area’ units are specified
  • Improved input handling and validation (including a number of improvements for central plants and loops, greater flexibility for heat/cool setpoints, and more)
  • Updates to the latest versions of all third-party software components to improve performance and minimize potential vulnerabilities
  • Other minor updates and enhancements.

FEDS 8.1

Key changes in FEDS 8.1 include the following:

  • The latest energy escalation rate projections as reported by the Annual Supplement to NIST Handbook 135
  • Inference data improvements
  • Expanded support for custom weather data imports
  • New retrofit options including additional electric space and water heating technology options allow for expanded analysis of building electrification potential
  • Report updates:
    • The study period for each retrofit measure was added to the CSV report.
    • The Compliance Tracking System (CTS) report was updated to match the latest version of the CTS reporting template.
    • The technology consumption output profiles were updated to reflect the energy use of all buildings in each building set.
  • All third-party software that FEDS relies on were reviewed and updated to the latest versions for improved performance and security.
  • Several software errors were resolved in the following areas of the GUI:  hot water system input access, navigation panel display, time-of-day electric rate period specification, and Cancel operations when navigating away from a screen with unsaved changes.
